| Overview & History | María Zavala is a seasoned career officer, well-respected as a scientist, diplomat, and starship commander. Having entered the Starfleet service at a time of relative peace, she has grappled with the many profound changes that have taken place over the years, particularly those brought on by conflict, war, and disaster. However, despite these things (or perhaps because of how others have rallied in response to them), she has managed to hold on to optimism and hope for the future. Although willing to be patient (a necessity for a scientist and mother of three), Zavala is not above rolling up her sleeves and putting in the work to…encourage things along. On more than one occasion, she has actively lobbied for herself (and for others), something which successfully led to her getting herself posted to more exploratory assignments following the war. After five years commanding an Intrepid class and ten years as captain of a Luna class, she was offered an invitation to join the admiralty. However, Zavala opted instead to request another command assignment, which brought her to the Carina and its new five-year mission. |
