“For everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven...”

— from the Hebrew scriptures of Earth, 450-180 BCE

There was a time, not so long ago, when the people of the United Federation of Planets had hope. They looked to the stars with wonder, curiosity, and a desire to know what was out there. Even though they had just come through a terrible war (in which billions had been killed), somehow they managed to see possibilities for new life.

That vision has sustained us through these post-war years. With it, we have found the strength to work together in rebuilding our communities and our worlds. We have paved the way for democratic governance and a reclaiming of lost heritage. We have deepened our relationships, increased social and cultural exchange, and opened doorways to places (and experiences) previously unknown. Even in the face of terrorist attack, natural disaster, and reactionary leadership, we have managed to keep the flame alive and to reach for something greater.

Even now, the seasons are beginning to change. A new era is rising, one in which the dreams of those who've gone before us might once again be realized. And the Galaxy-class explorer, USS Carina (NCC-71868), stands ready to embrace this change. For years, the Carina and its crew have faithfully helped to carry the torch, representing the Federation to its neighbors and continually expanind its understanding of the unknown. Having just completed a minor refit, the Carina has been assigned to the regions known as 'Galactic South" with express instructions to further explore the area and to establish (or renew) relations with the worlds and peoples they encounter.
