Player Activity Guidelines

Simming, at its heart, is about community. It is about making connections with one another, sharing common interests, and creating something together that is more fun and exciting than what we might otherwise have done on our own. It takes cooperation and commitment from everyone to operate effectively, and your participation is vital.

How often do I need to post?

We recommend setting a goal of posting at least once every fourteen (14) days – that is one (1) post every two weeks, working out as roughly two (2) posts a month. These can be “solo posts” (with just you writing as your main character and/or NPCs) or they can be “joint posts” that you write with one or more other members of the sim. At this pace, we hope that you can stay connected and engaged in the storytelling without feeling too overwhelmed.

When you are involved in a joint post with someone, please be sure to respond to tags promptly. It can be very difficult to move the story along if one or more contributors are not participating.

What if I’m having trouble keeping up?

We recognize there are a lot of things that demand our time, energy, and attention (and that simming together is one of many). Healthy balance is essential. In the end, your well-being is more important than whatever is happening on the sim at any given moment. All we ask is that, if you are having a difficult time, you let us know. Contact the commanding officer and they will work with you to make sure you have the support you need (insofar as simming is concerned). If that means taking a break, adjusting where you’re working in the current story, or even making a change to who you’re using as your main character, we are happy to help you with those things. Just talk to us.

What happens if someone “disappears”?

The commanding officer will attempt to contact the player via private message and email. Their goal in these contacts will be to (re)establish a connection and identify what issues might be affecting the player’s activity aboard the simulation. Together with the player, they will develop a plan of action for how the player might improve their participation (up to and including transitioning them to a leave of absence if they need time to deal with other things that are happening in their life).

If the commanding officer is unable to make contact with the missing player, then that player may be removed from the simulation and placed on “inactive status”. It is possible for individuals who have been placed on “inactive status” to be reinstated. However, they must discuss the matter with the commanding officer and commit to a plan of action that will move them toward being a more active participant.

Follow-Up

Questions, comments, and concerns are always welcomed and should be directed to a member of the sim command staff via private message or mail.
